As Dublin’s latest business tourism offering, the Conference Centre Dublin (CCD) is steadily taking shape and due for a grand opening in Autumn 2010. Sitting proudly on the River Liffey in the Dublin Docklands’s area, the CCD will greatly boost Dublin’s conference hosting ability. The landmark building was designed by Pritzker award-winning Irish architect Kevin Roche. Features include a stunning glass fronted atrium running the full height of the building on the waterfront. Benefits of the centre include a city centre location, state of the art inbuilt systems, suitability for small boardroom meetings as well as 8000 person congresses & a professional on site team.
This vicinity beyond the Custom’s House has undergone large scale regeneration in recent affluent years and projects, such as the rebuilding of the O2 concert and sports venue have attracted great attention. Not only should this be of interest to Dubliners, but to visitors alike. In the area architecture varies from old stone harbour facades to large scale contemporary designs housing major financial institutions. Midweek trading reverts to weekend calm, something not always easy to come by in the centre of a bustling city.
On the other side of the Liffey at Grand Canal Dock a 5star deluxe architectural wonder is planned. This will further add to delegate accommodation offerings close to the new conference venue.
Dining offerings in the area are unique with old vaulted warehouse spaces converted to bars and restaurants, an old harbour reused as festival space and sea vessels, moored and active, now available for dinner, drinks and cruising. Worth checking out too are the Irish art installations and sculpture along the quays, including Rowan Gillespie’s Famine Memorial.
We suggest you grab a coffee, seat yourself on a riverside bench and watch the seagulls! You just never know what else you might happen to see!
